Since this is the first 'real' storytelling thread on these boards, I think it would be better to stick to a basic storyline... What could be the best subject? something that we all know fairly well, thanx to movies such as Se7en, The Cell, The "Hannibal Trilogy" and many others: The Serial-Killer. The story will take place in (and around) New Orleans, where a serial-killer, dubbed "Guillotin" by the local newspapers because he decapitates his victims, has already killed 6 times. The first victim was discovered a month ago and the 5 last ones were discovered the last three days (but were killed over a period of 2 months). The FBI is called on the case... There is yet more to be uncovered, a dreadful, unnamable truth... ======== Cast of characters (in order of appearance): - Alan Warwick (local police/the killer): Rick T.Nash
- Quentin Ferri (FBI Agent): Agent Kafka
- Marcus Questor (FBI ASAC): Oz Lee
- Mickael Luder (FBI Forensics Expert): Cannibal Monkey
- Richarde Amanporte (Local Sheriff): sTango
======== If you are interested in participating, first read the Storytelling Guidelines and FAQ, then post a character proposal here. We now have all the needed characters but if you can come up with something interesting and creative you're welcome to join! Feel free to devellop the background of your characters as much as you feel... The more the better! Characters descriptions should include at least: - Name
- Occupation
- Physical description
- History of the character
But feel free to add whatever information you see fit. Just a last word: none of the characters is DG aware at the beginning of the story, we will introduce DG (or not) when the story will require its engagement Let's get started! ;D ----------------------------------------------------------------------- EDIT: Just a few informations that can proove useful to anybody who would like to participate to this STT: Looking to a New Orleans Map could be a good idea too For info: FBI New Orleans 2901 Leon C. Simon Dr. New Orleans, Louisiana 70126 neworleans.fbi.gov(504) 816-3000 I would also recommend to anybody who would like to play an FBI agent to read the excellent article The Bureau from the official DG website. Anybody planning on playing a forensics expert should also read Trotsky's Notes on Autopsies to learn a little bit of terminology and be able to write accurately. This page could also be useful (it describes the different steps of a "normal" autopsy). And this page will teach you how the forensics estimate the time of death... If you feel like you miss any background information, let me know... ;D

This is the first time that I'm trying this sort of thing so please correct me if I make any mistakes.
Name: Quentin Ferri
Profession: Special Agent, FBI
Description: Average height, muscular built, which however does not show while wearing a suit. Brown short hair and blue eyes. His nose is a little bit too big and pointy for him to be considered handsome but his eyes make up for it. They sparkle, making him seem very alive and intelligent. And he is.
History: Quentin was a troubled young man. Grew up in a rather conservative family which left little space for his own decisions regarding life and his future. His father served in the army all his life (now retired) and expected his son to follow a well-respected profession. He was not the only youth who had to put up with his father's expectations. But he was one of the few who never questioned them and rather blindly followed them.
A carreer in law was what was expected of him. And he did just that. His mother was a strong figure in the house trying to help Quentin find out what he really wanted to do but the boy-man didn't feel like creating any tension. If law was what his father wanted then law it would be.
He was very energetic and passionate since he was young. Following a clear-cut path for the rest of his life was very unlike him. The decision to follow it created a number of hobbies and activities besides studying. He had decided to study law but there was nothing prohibiting him from following many extra curicular activities. And as long as he was a good student, he could do anything else he wanted.
The first 2 years in college were uneventful. He studied meticulously, achieving good grades, satisfying his parents so that he could spend all his free time with friends, going skiing, bungee-jumping and hiking. Everything was allowed as long as it didn't meddle with his studies. And he was a smart man which enabled him to have a lot of free time.
It was at the end of the second year that he snapped. The realization of what he was becoming was suddenly very clear to him. It might had to do with his sister Tina coming to visit him, the long talks with his mother who wanted to make sure that he was happy doing what he did or it might have simply been a bottle of Jack Daniels during a lonely night. And he snapped.
Dropping out of college was not an option. He could cope with his father's anger but the truth was that didn't want to dissapoint him. He knew that he was heading full speed towards a future that he didn't want to see or experience but there had to be other ways for him to escape it. So, he finished college and despite the fact that his grades dropped a little, his father was still happy. And he himself was happy. Because now he knew what he wanted to do.
Becoming an FBI agent did not prove to be as difficult as he thought it would be. He did a lot of studying and training but he had an advantage because of his law degree as well as his hobbies which kept him in good shape. And he joined the Bureau. And his father was furious.
He did not expect that to happen. He had done everything he had to do. He even went through the last years in college, after deciding that he did't want to work in law. And the job that he chose was not a "petty" one. But to his father he was just a cop. Oh, well, a federal cop. Kicking him out of the house, although a traditional thing for a father to do in such a case, was not what Quentin afraid. He started working and he earned enough money to live on his own. And his father was desperate because in his head, "After he graduates from college, what can possibly go wrong? I even know this senator who can fix him up...". But all that didn't really matter to Quentin. He had his mother and sister at his side. And more important of all, now he truly felt alive!
Does he really want to be a Special Agent? He thinks so. So far he only had a couple of minor cases which he dealt with with success. The near future will probably prove whether his choice was the right one for him.

;D Impressive! I could feel the influence of a certain famous FBI agent at the beginning but it's okay...
Welcome on board!
Well, if you have any questions just ask!
Now, let's wait for others to join...

Here's my character, I've decided to be the killer.
Name: Alan James Warwick (aka "Guillotin")
Occupation: Lafourche Parish Sheriff deputy at day, serial killer at night.
Physical description: Alan is a bully of a man, 6'4", 228 lbs, with deep brown eyes and dark hair cut short. Yet, defenitely not a womanizer. He's 32 years old.
History: Joined the sheriff's department at the age of 22, to follow the steps of his father.
Almost had troubles several times because of his "rude and violent" behaviour at work, but, thanx to the Sheriff, he never got real troubles for this.
Never married. Parents died a few years ago in a car crash.
Nothing more to learn about him through "normal" research.
Alan has started to kill 3 months ago, but his first victim was not discovered yet. He knew her well and thus has made sure her body would be as hard to find as possible. Why does he kill? What triggered him? That would be telling! ;D

EDIT: setting information was put in first post!

Wow! Good work!
I'll try to keep up to the high standards that have been set...
Here's my character:
Name: Marcus Questor
Occupation: Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) Violent Crimes Cell New Orleans Local Bureau.
Physical Description: 27 years old, 5'8", 154lbs, brown hair trimmed short, blue eyed, always wearing his suit even on the field.
Marcus is calm, competant, serious. He looks like a yuppie but is cold and distant.
History: Nothing of interest can be learned scanning his history. Yet, it is quite strange that an agent that young could get that high in the hierarchy...

Glad to have you on this one Oz! ;D Okay, I think we may start with those three characters. The Sheriff's guys won't be needed before lukulius's character intro to New Orleans is made. The forensics guy isn't needed until lukulius's meets Oz's. And the victim can be taken in a little later... Okay, I'll post the thread with my first post soon

Nice introduction you two! ;D
BTW, I couldn't find where the bureau is located on any New Orleans maps... Do you know where it is?
EDIT: Nash, can you give us some more info on the murders? Kafka and I will need it if we have to talk about the case...

Well... It would be better if you could keep the discussion you're about to have off this topic for the moment (untill we have found our forensics guy)... But if you really have to talk about it, here's a few informetion: - the corpses were found in bayous of Lafourche Parish
- most of the corpses found had spent more than two weeks (and up to three months) in water and few info could be gathered (because of alligators and other scavengers mainly)
- the heads were cut off with a chainsaw apparently
- the 2 most recent corpses (found that day) haven't been autopsied yet (they are still in Lafourche Parish and should be transfered in the bureau's forensics labo the next day in the morning), one of the bodies was apparently found a day or two after being dumped in the bayou and might provide useful information
;D

Knowing nothing seems ok. Being an RPG player I like to not know where the story is going.
On another note. We are going to have a conversation with Lee. That is probably going to take ages. Posting will probably have to be a little more frequent to accomodate that.

When having a such conversation, I think it would be better (and would speed up the process) to "talk" for the other as long as it is "small talk"... For example, in the present situation, if my character proposes to take Kafka's one to this hotel, I would not wait for Kafka's approval and consider that he is okay... Okay, I'll wait until you've posted your thoughts on this to post my next addition to the story...

It seems fine to me Oz... This is not a RPG and we cannot "slow" the story each time we need to talk. I think that in this case you can handle most of (all?) the conversation from Questor's point of view, since Kafka already "agreed" that his character accepted the drive...
The basic rule of thumb is: Do not take any decision for another storyteller's character without his approval. But you can handle a conversation from one point of view only, just leave it to the other to take on from your last sentence if it implies a choice of his part, is that clearer now? ;D
Is it okay with you Kafka?
