Note: I'm reviewing Jeff Goldblum's version. I've never seen the earlier one, so I can't comment on it.
Type: Science-based Creature Feature
Synopsis: A scientist has created a matter transporting device, which could revolutionise transport as we know it. But, when the time comes to test it on a living human (himself), there is an extra entity in the chamber with him... And only one being steps out the other side.
Review: Well... It's fairly fun to watch the degeneration of a man into a monster, but the effects really don't help to suspend disbelief. If you watch it with your eyes closed, it's probably really good - the scientist refuses to admit he's turning into something bad (even feels better to start with), and it all goes on a nice mental track as well as physical... But it doesn't seem logical. It stands to reason (for me, at least), that if you're turning into a human fly, you don't desperately want all your loved ones to join you in your human-flydom. As for CoC fun... it could be good. A scientist, meddling with things that ought not be meddled with merges himself with a Mythos entity of some sort and comes out distinctly changed... Oooh, Ive inspired myself...
Rating:
Plot: 3 - Meh. Nothing to write home about.
Fun: 4 - I did enjoy watching it, despite my apparent negativity.
Graphic: 2.5 - Although some scenes are cool (watching a guy pull his fingernails out of pussy, elongated fingers, for example), some are decidedly sh*t (a man's arm breaking during an arm-wrestling match, f'rexample)
OVERALL: 3 - If it's on telly, go ahead. Don't go forth and preach it's gospel though.
