Type: Cult Horror/Thriller (Probably more thriller than horror)
Synopsis: Neil Howie, police sergeant on the Scottish mainland and fervent Christian is called out to investigate the disappearance of a young girl on a small, mysterious island. At first it seems to be a normal missing person case, but why are the islanders being so evasive? And just what is going to happen on May Day, the day of Death... and Rebirth?
Review: This movie nicely explores the cult mentality, and gives you some insight into just why those bad cults your investigators spend all their time killing might act the way they do. The suspense is great, and the twist at the end is superb. Perhaps, in this day and age of mobile telephones and so on the helplessness and strangeness of being trapped in a peculiar place would be lessened, but I think it could be pulled off as a scenario.
Rating: Plot: 4 (This film was cut beyond belief when it was first released, and in doing this several vital scenes were lost making it all seem a bit odd in places, but you still get the overall picture)
Fun: 5 (Brit Ekland dancing naked against a wall... What more need be said?)
Graphic: 3 (Nothing amazing goes on, but everything looks convincing enough. Considering the age of it, it's remarkable)
OVERALL: 5 - One of the best British films ever in my opinion. Whilst the scores I've given it may not add up, I guarantee it all just 'works' to make it my favourite film at the moment. Watch it.
