I'm almost sure we've all taken liberties in our games from what's considered 'canon', or even if we stuck to it, through time the balance of powers have changed in our campaigns...
I'm really interested in knowing what you did in your own campaigns... What 'canon' material did you dismiss? How did the DG world evolve in your own game?
(I'll not tell you about my game now since it would be full of spoilers for the DG-Op:SW online game, but I'll tell you more as soon as possible)

Wow... In my own campaign I'm actually not using that much of the "canon" material. I've been playing weekly with the same group for about a year and a half now and less than 15 sessions were using "canon" material. (about 8 around MJ12/The Greys/Mi-go, 2-3 dealing with the Karotechia, the rest being used for the Liao/Reverb adventure and the Skopsi) But that's mainly because I don't use that much Mythos critters in my games. I tend to prefer using human monsters. The main part of the campaign deals with a consortium led by cultist who want to prepare humanity and earth itself for the End Times via pollution, destruction of morals, etc... (Not unlike the 'Pentex' in Pale Puppy ® products) My players are used to spend a few sessions without meeting anything but much too human foes, thus, when they meet the tell-tale monster, they know they're in deep trouble. Actually, I use the Mythos critters to create 'dead ends' in the investigation: a critter only shows when the investigation went 'as far as I want it to go'. When the Mythos really gets involved, it tends to destroy all useful evidence that would allow the players to tear another peel of the onion, killing everybody who could give them more info, setting the place on fire, etc... Now, I know that my vision of DG is not shared by many, but I truly believe that too much Mythos kills the 'vibe'. The less direct Mythos involvement in a campaign, the more 'credible' it becomes. The more credible a campaign, the scarier it is when the monsters show up!

What I changed? Let me think... Nothing!?! My last DG campaign dates back to 2001, when my 2 of my players moved away together (they are brothers) since then I haven't played DG IRL. But I never stopped scheming My own campaign was almost a purely 'canon' one. But I didn't get enough time to cover all the DG universe. The scenarios from the 2 DG sourcebooks were all played almost as portraied, PX Poker Night too. My Tiger Transit/Reverb scenario ended up with the whole cell being wiped out by the Hound and replacements being called in... We also spent a few sessions on Karotechia based scenarios but never got to complete that part of the campaign. I never got to play any PISCES or GRU-SV8 scenario yet. I also left the Hastur Mythos totally out of the picture. I have a full campaign of my own handy, but I'm not willing to talk about it before it has been play-tested. Maybe I'll make an online game out of it when DG-Op:SW is completed
