Author: Walter C. DeBill, Jr. Type: Mythos - Modern Synopsis: Nathan McLachlan's first job, working for his uncle Alistair, a strange bookseller, will also be first brush with the Mythos... What does the big crates his uncle currently sends and receives contain? What are the noisy things living in the basement? Just how old is Alistair? Review:This tale's subject is quite classic... However, the tone and style make it a fun read. I particularly like how the author plays with the reader, (almost) never naming the Eldritch tomes the main character reads, while nevertheless giving enough info to let us know what the books are. It seems DeBill wanted to write the most basic Mythos story, somehow he succeeded. Ratings:- Plot: 2 (Not much to see here)
- Fun: 4 (It's always fun to feel like you know much more than the hero)
- Style: 4
- Overall: 3
Available in: Disciples of Cthulhu II - Chaosium
